Geez Where do i even start. challenge areas also called science areas are these areas on the world where there is "modded" mobs and bosses. by using command blocks. so the server isn't 100% vanilla. hence why i said semi-vanilla. Completing these challenge areas grants you special loot. and science items.
SCIENCE ITEMS
These items are not vanilla. They have enchanted that excede the limit on vanilla, these items are fun to have. and you get to show off your science gear to people. you can dig with a diamond shovel with efficiency VII or have unbreakable armor. Keeps the game fresh after getting all the vanilla stuff and you are at endgame vanilla. then you can go to the science areas, get an adventure and get these powerful items.

Staff work tirelessly to constantly watch form the shadows..
They spot any griefers hackers, racists, trolls, religious freaks, and anyone that tried to shout out another server. They are known to be very strict, But who could blame them? this is a world where people aren't nice, and the server is 10 years old, wouldn't want a hacker hijacking the server. Yes the staff is terrifying but rest assured, if you truly are good. they are extremely good to have on your side. You may fear them when you join but rest assured, your house wont get raided your chests wont get stolen, your animals wont get killed. These highly trained experts are well equipped to deal with the worst things

If you need something chances are someone is willing to trade with you. All the regulars on CL are constantly grinding. So they probably have what you need and will love to help/talk to you, There's few player base usually but you bet they are the cream of the crop the best of the best, they truly are quality players.

Every time someone joins a newcomer or not, all the staff say welcome or welcome back. I haven't been around on this server long enough to really know any of the staff. but they seem Nice in chat however sometimes there will be racists or homophobes joining and the staff is VERY slow to act and ban them.

MCMMO
HC has a mod called MCMMOSimple tasks such as mining falling, cutting trees, using swords on monsters, and using bows can now be expanded on. the more you do a certain task the more you level up the more powerful you become in that task. you can see more about the mod by clicking the green button below. i haven't played that much to really understand it yet
LGBT FRIENDLY
I love how inclusive and loving this server is, everyone has Public sexuality on the server and that's really awesome! but.. I have absolutely no idea why that is available to everyone. and why EVERYONE wants to share their sexuality. of course this has some problems. You will have religious people or straight people start trolling on pride. this is what happens when you encourage people to bring their sexuality and politics into a server. Nothing new. But it is amazing with its inclusivity
CRATES
You can get keys by voting for them on various websites and by buying them with the in-game currency. these crates yield special items an more keys for other crates.
NOT PAY TO WIN
The in-game currency is completely free to get. there are free money farms (which kinda suck) and you can sell a large majority of basic items in Minecraft for some money. i still haven't found the most efficient way to make money, but there has to be one. because there are some people with hundreds of millions of dollars on there. ill give the server the benefit of the doubt that they didn't give those people all that money because those people gave the server a "generous tip" otherwise the server is paid to win.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
The fps is wayyyyy better than other servers. so it's more enjoyable. yeah, self-explanatory, good performance happy people.
